English as a Second Language(ESL)

English as a Second Language for Refugee Claimants is a special program designed to help refugees learn English. It's tailored for individuals who are new to the language and might find it challenging.

In this program, you'll learn how to speak, read, write, and understand English more effectively. We understand the challenges you face, so we ensure that the class is supportive and friendly. Our goal is to help you feel more comfortable using English in your everyday life.

By joining us, you'll gain the skills needed to communicate, find jobs, and feel more at home in your new community. We're here to support you on your journey to a brighter future.

  

Eligibility

  • Refugee Claimants/Asylum Seekers
  • Adults (18 years of age or older) who have their English tested at one of the local YMCA Language Assessment and Referral Centres in Toronto

FEE

  • There is no fee for eligible students.

TIMING

  • Classes are part-time, mornings, evenings, or weekends.

 

Program Outcomes

  • Better English: You'll get better at speaking, listening, reading, and writing English

  • Feeling Confident: You'll feel more confident using English in everyday situations

  • Making Friends: You'll learn about different cultures and make new friends in your community

  • More Opportunities: Learning English can help you find better jobs, go to school, and do more things in your new home
